RASCI Chart or Matrix? ▶
A RASCI matrix is a tool used to clarify roles and responsibilities in projects or processes. It visually maps who is Responsible, Accountable, Supportive, Consulted, and Informed for each task or milestone. You will also see it referred to as a chart — these are the same thing.
Do I need all the letters? ▶
- R – Responsible: No, it's common to pick 4 of them unless you have a very large project. In smaller projects and groups, there is often crossover and most commonly the S is removed.
- A – Accountable: The person ultimately answerable for the task's success.
- S – Supportive: People who help complete the task.
- C – Consulted: People whose opinions are sought before a decision or action.
- I – Informed: People who need updates on progress or outcomes.
